Last month, Belle Plaine banned the use of skateboards, rollerblades, rollerskates, rollerskis in all city parks, except the skate park.
In the past, the downtown area was off limits, but not parks.
Should Jordan do something similar?

I personally feel this to be...
Back to page topI personally feel this to be a bad Idea. I have not seen nor heard of problems with skaters in Jordan, however in the past have known certain individuals of whom felt insecure with our youth. I know there is an ordinance that was on the books and being inforced forbidding the usage of certain roads in Jordan, I am uncertain if it has been lifted. I believe that our Police Chief is knowledgable and can enforce any problematic situation that may arise and therefore see no need to ban enjoyment of our youth. If we keep prohibiting the ability for people to enjoy life, they will leave in droves. Life is too short, enjoy it.
R. W. Johnson Tell me again,...
Back to page topR. W. Johnson Tell me again, what and who are the Jordan Parks for? If you are a senior, like me, you can get exercise (like reading the paper) while sitting at home. But where should young people full of energy and vinigar go ....to the pool hall. and smoke cigarettes? Will that be their only remaining choice? Don't take away the alternatives. you will pay dearly if the young are cut off from decent recreation.
Way to go, Belle Plaine....
Back to page topWay to go, Belle Plaine. Intelligent response. They have a few adolescents and young adults who are causing a stir in their parks and now anyone with wheels has to pay for it. It's much like cutting off your hand instead of pulling out the splinter from your finger.
Their response to the behavior of about 10 or 20 has now cost hundreds their right to exercise.
These kids will now just get on their bikes. And next month when they act up will Belle Plaine ban bicycles too?
We have the technology to find and record the malicious activity, then punish the offenders. Punish the skate-ER, not the skate.
