Very interesting & thank you for posting these issues.
I agree, in fact Billy was quite a lady's man, & often filled the surrounding area with laughter. He treated women very well & left generous Southern Hospitality gifts as payments for their services!
It's strictly my opinion, but I believe Billy's [circumstances, as you call it], happened over a split second decision, which Billy had to make a choice which resulted in Billy's quick hand of actions. I believe during this time, Pat Garrett was there, witnessed the incident, & perhaps may have been the person saved that day, by Billy's 're'action, response! I believe Billy saved Pat's life that day, & during the time of Billy's supposed death, Pat repaid his debt to Billy, by covering up, sweeping under the table, the real facts, that indeed Pat turned his back, as Billy rode away!
Now in reference to Billy's ghost possibly being in Minnesota, yes, it is possible, based on the fact that, anything is possible! However, Billy's ghost could have been visiting a lady friends' burial site, or one of his Pals' burial site, or perhaps more importantly, **just somebody that in some kind of way, touched him during his young life, in a special way, kindheartedly, buried there!
It's also true that Billy got along very well with store owners & store keepers. Billy was a switch out, custom revolver specialist! He'd substitute parts from one brand new pistol, with parts from another, which changed the handling, weight & performance of the firearm, to the way he was accustomed to! He was strictly a right handed shooter! He had at least 2, one being cross drawn, & a lot of times, not in plain view! He seldom carried one in the small of his back, but it was very uncomfortable, & chilled him!
Where he went after Garrett's retreat, nobody knows for sure! I wish I could meet with you & go there, but that's out of the question, presently. Perhaps I'd be able to get a few more answers, & fill in a few more blanks. I have a copy photo of him, from the museum, I have up on my wall, beside one of me, close to the same age. The resemblences would knock your socks off! I wouldn't be surprised to find out I may be related to him, but still working on that.
Again, thank you Kathy for posting. You may contact me personally, which we could continue a little further, if you wish. I'd like to know what kind of recorder your using, & if your using an external microphone?

Thanks Twins, and elkes4. I am glad you like my stories.
I have been on some new cases and had some interesting things happen and I will post them when I can. Right now I am trying to catch up with school. Yes this old lady went back to school.
Elks, I did write a story about the Sulphur springs being haunted which is now the regional training facility in Mudbaden.

I couldn’t find the link for that, so I may have to repost the story if you’re interested. When I was there, I did find some spirits. An old person followed us around and I did finally get very a voice of her. There was also a man on the 3rd floor who came up to me and called me mam. They wouldn’t let me come back with my team, but I am guessing that once these fearless firefighters and police people start experiencing some activity it might unnerve them enough to have me come back so we can cross these poor lost souls over. At least that is my hope. I hate thinking of that poor old woman begging for help and I can’t do anything for her.

It is ok to agree and even disagree, acceptance is what makes us a community.... and besides, no one will want me to come back as a ghost, because sometimes they want to run away from me screaming and I am still alive!!!! maybe its not the same, but still if you think about it, it is funny. There are loads of stories that used to flow through this town, most were mainly because someone did not want to get to know someone else and they seemed mysterious so someone created a story of how they were so evil etc. In almost every occasion if you walked up to the door and said "Hi!" That older lady who popped the kick balls and tied up kids in her basement, would just say hi back and some times give you candy!!!!!!! really "Bill"... and you kept the candy for yourself the whole time!!! now that is a true story.

When I was young I went out to what used to be Mud Baden with my buddy Bud and visited with his Grandpa Bud D. who was maintenance there. I do not know if he was trying to scare us or just telling stories. He told us of how the elevator there would go up and down without assistance and usually around the same times each day and they had found nothing wrong with it. He told us of how Al Capone and some of his gang used to frequent the baths and the nearby hotel (probably because the train tracks were so close) which was later backed up by multiple resident elders. I have heard the stories of a ghostly cowboy who used to hand around the grave yard between here and Belle Plaine… I just love the stories even if I personally can not rationally accept there credibility, they are none the less entertaining. So it is totally feasible that in his day William Bonney did travel through our town (as it does border a major river that he may have not been surpass) and his ghost could still be trying to get somewhere.... you just have to choose to believe and yes I had actually listened to these stories from more than one resident in the distant pass.

When I heard the name William Bonney, I was as surprised as every one else. My first thought was a Walking Spirit. Billy the Kid is know to have lived in Arizona, New Mexico area and not has been known to be up this far north.

I looked to see if there was a possibility that Billy the Kid may have lived in Minnesota. What I found that there is a mystery surrounding Billy the Kids death.
Let’s review the facts:

William Bonney was highly thought of by many people. He really was considered well read, well spoken and well mannered. It was circumstances that happened in his early years and the time that he lived in that made him an outlaw.

Pat Garrett and Billy were good friends and they had nick names for each other.

The man (witness) with Pat Garrett at the time of the shooting did not know Billy.

There was no public viewing of Billy’s body.

There were 2 death certificates for Billy. Pat Garrett did not like the first one the judge made and insisted on a new one.

Pat Garrett never collected the bounty that was on Billy.

Could Pat Garrett, knowing the real person that Billy was, allowed him to escape to live out his life quietly some where else and allowed him to become the man is was meant to be? If this is true, Billy had 2 choices, to go east or north past Kansas.

Let’s consider the possibility that Billy did survive. If Billy did wonder around looking for a place to live with out anyone knowing him, Lydia would have been perfect. Lydia is a lovely small close knit town with Jordan being the closest large city. There wouldn’t be a chance for any one to have wonder into town who would have known him. With his charming well mannered ways, I also can see that he may soon have won the hearts of the people and had settled down, perhaps marrying a girl from the area.

Some may think that this idea may seem far fetched. In my exploration of the cemetery, I did get a man saying William Bonney on my recorder. I had considered the possibility that this may be a voice from a wondering spirit. Perhaps it was a spirit of one of the past residents just wanting to shake up the town of Lydia and bring attention to the tiny cemetery. Getting a name either first or last is rare; Rarer still, is getting a full name as clear as that one was.

The news came by e-mail: “Hi Mathias. I may have an interesting story brewing for you,” Jordan resident Kathy Machowski, a ghost hunter a founding member of Beyond the Veil, wrote earlier this fall. “I was in a graveyard not to far from Jordan, and I was doing my ghostie thing. Well, I got an EVP of a man saying, ‘William Bonney.’”
