The Jordan Jaguars girls basketball team defeated New Prague 39-34 on Tuesday night in a battle of No. 1 ranked teams.
The No. 1 ranked team in Class 2A didn't score in the final five minutes and 16 seconds but held off the No. 1 ranked team in Class 3A, New Prague, to improve to 9-1 on the season.
Jordan led 23-16 at halftime but saw that lead fall to 37-34 with 2:11 left to play.
Jordan senior Brittany Chambers drilled two free throws with 16 seconds left to seal the victory.
Chambers finished with a game-high 12 points. Senior Leah Dietel added nine points.
Jordan High School is hosting a basketball tournament on Monday Dec. 29 and Tuesday, Dec. 30.
The boys tournament will be played in the afternoon with Brooklyn Center playing Byron at 1:30 p.m. Following that game, the Hubmen will face Minneapolis Edison at 3:30 p.m.
The girls tournament begins at 5:30 p.m. with Stewartville playing Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted. The No. 1 ranked Jaguars finish the first day of the tournamen with a 7:30 p.m. matchup with St. Louis Park.

The Jordan Jaguars girls basketball team, the No. 1 ranked team in Class 2A, defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Thursday night 81-40.
That game was just warmup to the big game of the weekend for the Jaguars.
On Saturday, Dec. 6, the Jaguars will take on the No. 1 ranked team in Class 4A, the Centennial Cougars in Becker at 4:45 p.m.
The game is part of the sixth annual The BreakDown's Tip-off classic.
The Jordan girls basketball team is ranked atop the Associated Press Preseason girls basketball poll for Class 2A.
The Jaguars are first after finishing second in last year's state
tournament and returning four of their five starters from that team.

The Jordan volleyball will be holding its banquet on Sunday, Dec. 7
at the Ridges at Sand Creek Golf Course. The banquet begins with a
social hour at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m. and a program at 6:45 p.m.
The banquet is open to the public.
