The animal "made a fatal mistake," the article said, when it touched electrical switches at a substation and shorted out power for more than 1,000 Xcel Energy customers. - The Belle Plaine City Council hired a firm to design a proposed building for the city's public works department. This year's county fair runs July 23-27. Check out these videos: Luke Oellrich of Jordan casts his fishing line from the shore of the Mill Pond in Lagoon Park. He'd taken part in a demonstration by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. As the park filled up with attendees of Pork in the Park last weekend, Oellrich, his brother Jack, and his parents, John and Ann, found a quiet spot to continue fishing. The cold, wet weather the state has brought both bad and good news for mosquito season. Schools work toward 1 percent fund balance (and other happenings in and around New Prague)May 21, 2008 - 9:15am — Mathias BadenHere's what's been going on in and around New Prague lately, according to the New Prague Times: - An unreserved fund balance of $300,000 is the New Prague school - Thirty-nine people applied for the position of New Prague city administrator, which will be vacated by 33-year veteran Jerry Bohnsack in July. Minnesota Department of Natural Resources stocking of the Mill Pond continued this week. The DNR's goal was to provide 800 male bluegill (sunfish), 200 adult black crappie, and 34 largemouth bass. The state's Fishing in the Neighborhood Program sees the Mill Pond as a fishing pond for children, but others are welcome to cast a line. Jordan Mayor Ron Jabs spoke about a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, May 7. Here's some of what he said: - Lagoon Park was originally dedicated to the city in 1929 by the flour company International Milling. - The flood of 1960 deposited sediment in the Mill Pond that was many feet deep. |
