Let's just say that most of these Scott County's politicians ought not to quit their jobs in office.

The celebrity milking contest Sunday at the Scott County Fair is one time that Jim Terwedo, who is on the fair board, can "humble" those seeking or in local government positions, he said. Contestants included state reps. Mark Buesgens, David Bly, and Michael Beard, state representative candidates Sue Bruns and Tim Siebsen, Scott County Commissioner Joe Wagner, Belle Plaine Mayor Tom Meger, and Jordan mayoral candidate Pete Ewals. It would have helped if the cows and goats were cooperative.

Meger and Siebsen tied for first place with 1/4 ounce of milk in the minute-long contest. Then, four 4-Hers showed the politicians how it's supposed to be done. Dan Gliczinski finished with 1-1/8 ounces in the allotted time. "They did 32 times better than me," said Wagner, who laughed prior to the contest while saying he had finished in last place for nine straight years. Make that 10 straight years, after this contest -- it was a six-way tie for last place.
