Senate District meeting is tonight
Senate District 35 Democratic-Farmer-Labor business meetings are held the second Thursday of every month. The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. tonight at the Prior Lake Public Library, 16210 Eagle Creek Ave. S.E. in Prior Lake. Every meeting is open to the public.

VFW auxiliary meets tonight
Members of the VFW Auxiliary Post No. 2854 meet at 7 p.m. tonight at the Schule Haus Community Room, 100 W. Fourth St. in Jordan. All members are encouraged to attend at no charge.

Business network meets
The River Valley Business Network Group will meet at 8:30 a.m. Friday, June 12, at Valley Bank, 200 Creek Lane N. in Jordan.
This group normally meets every second and fourth Fridays of the month. There is no charge to attend these meetings. Visitors are invited to attend twice before deciding whether or not to join.
A membership to the group costs $100 per year.

City hosts Coffee Hour
The Jordan Area Chamber of Commerce Coffee Hour will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. June 12 at Lagoon Park, located along Park Drive in Jordan. This coffee hour is hosted by the city of Jordan and Bolton & Menk, Inc.
There is no charge to attend this event.

PETCO hosts pet adoption
Volunteers from the Carver Scott Humane Society will hold a pet adoption from noon to 3 p.m. June 13 at PETCO, 244 Pioneer Trail in Chaska. CSHS is without its own building, and all pets are housed in foster care.
All cats and dogs have been micro ID implanted, vet checked, wormed, had shots updated, checked for friendly temperaments, and age appropriately spayed or neutered. Adoption fees begin at $155 for cats and $185 for dogs.

Library hosts storytime
The Jordan library will hold a family storytime at 11 a.m. June 16 in the library, 230 S. Broadway St.
“Stories in stitches” will be the theme of the books, songs, and action rhymes at this week’s free storytime.

Alzheimer’s support group meets
The Lutheran Home of Belle Plaine and its Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will hold their next Alzheimer’s support group meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 15, in the conference room at the Lutheran Home, 611 W. Main St. “Caring and Sharing” will be the topic.
This group provides resources and a support group for community members whose lives are touched by Alzheimer’s disease and other memory-loss disorders. The monthly support groups are free and open to the public.

Legion Post No. 45 meets
The members of American Legion Post No. 45 will hold their regular monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, in the club room of the Park Ballroom, 300 Lexington Ave S. in New Prague.

La Leche League meets
La Leche League offers support and encouragement to mothers who wish to breastfeed their babies. The group will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, at 844 Daniel Drive in Belle Plaine.
Mothers are invited to bring their nursing babies, and pregnant women are also encouraged to attend. There is no charge to attend this meeting.

WIC voucher pickup is in Shakopee
Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) voucher pickup for Jordan, Belle Plaine, and New Prague area residents will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at the Community Action Program (CAP) Agency, 712 Canterbury Road in Shakopee.
There is no charge for this event.

Women’s connection meets
The Wellspring Women’s Connection will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at the Hub of Jordan, 231 Broadway St. S. The theme is “Getting Back to the Basics” and will focus on recycling, reusing, and repurposing common household items.
There is a $5 charge to attend this meeting, which includes a dessert, snacks, and a beverage.

Seminars teach home buying
Home Stretch is a series of homebuyer education seminars designed to walk people through each step of home-buying, from budgeting and loan applications to lenders, closing, and maintaining a new home.
Each seminar has three class dates. The next seminar will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. June 16, June 18, and June 23 at the Carver County Community Development Agency, 705 Walnut St. in Chaska. To receive a completion certificate, which is required by some mortgage products, you must attend all three classes.
The cost is $20 per homebuyer family. Pre-registration is recommended.

Wildlife refuge holds birding class
The Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge will hold “Wings Over the Woodlands,” a beginning bird-watching workshop, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at the Rapids Lake Education and Visitor Center, 15865 Carver Highlands Drive in Carver.
This is the first of the summer NatureWise series and is designed for beginners or anyone interested in birding. The session will teach how look at birds, identify them, and their roles in the forest ecosystem.
Binoculars will be provided for those who do don’t have their own. There is no charge to attend this session, but pre-registration is required.
