Schools work toward 1 percent fund balance (and other happenings in and around New Prague)

Here's what's been going on in and around New Prague lately, according to the New Prague Times: - An unreserved fund balance of $300,000 is the New Prague school - Thirty-nine people applied for the position of New Prague city administrator, which will be vacated by 33-year veteran Jerry Bohnsack in July. - Many top runners in the 23rd annual New Prague Half-Marathon and the second annual 5K race had local ties. - Sister Kathleen Kajer and Dallas Bohnsack were honored at New Prague High School's Evening of Excellence. - The New Prague City Council approved an addition to the Knights of Columbus hall. - Coburn's Superstore opened. - Sanitary sewer rates in New Prague jumped 22 percent. - New Prague's citywide garage sale took place last Saturday. - A full-page color advertisement touted Emergency Medical Services Week and noted that Harry VonBank has served 39 years with the New Prague Ambulance Service. - Headline in the May 8 edition of the Times: "Plans for Wal-Mart site move forward." - Edna Weiers, a correspondent who writes about Union Hill for the Times, added a bit of humor to her column. "From the time an infant tries to get his toes in his mouth, life is a continual struggle to make both ends meet," she wrote. - A Stillwater resident, Maria Cox, is Miss Czech Slovak Minnesota. - After his miniature beagle Buddy was allegedly drowned by a neighbor, Norman Hallet got beagle-rat terrier mix Buddy Jr. The puppy, Hallet, and his grandson Jordan Alt were pictured in the Times.
