While some people see Sand Creek as a trickle of water slowly flowing past picturesque bluffs, into the woods, and through a golf course, rural backyards, and a park near Jordan, the river offers a surprisingly speedly stretch of rapids.
For the best ride on an inner tube, start near Sawmill Woods and take a windy 23-minute trip to the state rest stop along Highway 21. It's a fairly quick trip, even at this time of year, or especially after a good spring rainfall. Watch my latest, giddiest tube ride:

You want a good ride....take...
Back to page topYou want a good ride....take Sand Creek from County Road 8 to the Minnesota River. We used to do it all the time, just about 2 1/2 hours worth of riding......although the best rapids on the creek are behind the Mini Met.
I have gone from County Road...
Back to page topI have gone from County Road 8 to the falls. It's pretty fun. And during the art festival, I noticed that the rapids were moving pretty well behind the Mini-Met.
But I'm unsure of the rest of the route to the Minnesota River. Is the water high enough? Does it put me out into the middle of Louisville Swamp, where I'll get stuck and have to wade through muck to get home?
Someday, I'll try the whole Jason Allen run (minus going over the waterfall), but I might save it for next spring.
When was the last time you tubed the creek, Jason?
