- Anthony Mark Klaseus of Belle Plaine pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in the case of his 8-year-old son's death in a hunting accident. The story ran on page 14 of the June 25 issue of the Herald.
- Chase Hentges, drafted last month by the Kansas City Royals, is the grandson of Mike and Shirley Fogarty of Belle Plaine, the grand marshals of the St. Patrick's Day parade in Belle Plaine.
- In a photo on page 5 of the June 25 issue of the Herald, 88-year-old Catherine Meyer of Belle Plaine holds up a 1978 copy of the Star Tribune sports page that featured her grandson, Don Aase of the California Angels.
- Seneca (formerly Green Giant) began harvesting the pea crop in a 54-acre field in Blakeley Township. Up next: Soybeans.
- The board of directors for the recently unified Belle Plaine Co-op and Hwy. Ag. Services decided to call the organization Genesis.
