Former mayor wins League of Minnesota Cities' highest honor

» Read similar stories filed under:

Jordan's former mayor has won the League of Minnesota Cities' highest honor.

Ron Jabs won the C.C. Ludwig Award, Jordan City Administrator Ed Shukle announced during the city council meeting tonight.

"I told him today, and he was ecstatic," Shukle said. "We're very appreciative."

A few short months after Jabs lost the mayoral office in a heated election, the city council unanimously voted to nominate him for what Shukle called "LMC's prestigious award."

Jabs will receive the award on June 24 in St. Paul.

For more information about the leadership award, given to those who have made significant contributions to Minnesota city government, go to http://lmc.org/page/1/lmc-awards-program.jsp or read the PDFs attached below.

NEWS UPDATE: I added a PDF to the bottom of this story. It is the nomination form sent from the city to the League of Minnesota Cities, asking for Ron Jabs to be considered for the leadership award.

By the way -- congratulations, Ron!

this is all fine & good but how many awards does a "former mayor" need? the people have spoken, so let's move forward; there's obviously a reason why he's NOT the mayor anymore. let's support the new mayor & head in a new direction.

"I hope Ron continues in some capacity to promote Jordan."

What a wonderful way for former Mayor Jabs to promote our delightful town! (as written in your own words...)

This award represents what Ron did while he was in office - it has nothing to do with not supporting the new mayor or a failure to move forward...

To answer your question ...how many awards does a "former mayor" need? - I say a "former Mayor" should receive as many awards as his merit allows...

Congratulations Ron!

I think first the NEW mayor needs to show us something to give reason to support him.

Ron lost the election...

Ron lost the election because of a large amount of misinformation about the intersection project. It's not about the people have spoken, the people reacted to bad information being given to them. What Ron has done for this city can not be matched, and it frustrates me when people pretend that him losing the way he did was anything more than fear mongering by a few, including our current mayor.

Folks, if you want to use this thread to praise Ron Jabs, go to it. Let's not start taking shots at anyone here - neither Ron, nor anyone else.

I think it was appropriate for the city council to unanimously support the application to the League of Minnesota Cities for Jabs to win this award. He well served Jordan for many years. Why not reward him for that, again and again? We owe him far more than he owes us.

Ron Jabs served Jordan well and earned the recognition that he has received, regardless of the past election's outcome.Honoring Ron does not show a lack of support for the current mayor or anyone else,it is just recognizing a job well done.
