The Elko New Market City Council was scheduled to, on this Thursday, choose a firm to conduct a study of its police department.

A consultant will likely study whether Elko New Market should contract police services with the Scott County Sheriff's Office, the New Prague Times reported last week.

Four police officers have resigned in recent weeks, the Times said, and the council held a closed meeting to discuss threated litigation related to employment claims by Sgt. Steve Malecka.
