After foreclosure, man allegedly burns down his home

A 46-year-old man from St. Lawrence Township is accused of burning his own home after the sheriff sold it in a foreclosure sale.

Scott County District Court charged Jerry Lee Pilsner with felony arson and theft in connection with a fire that destroyed his home at 21846 Sielaff Drive on Jan. 28, according to the Belle Plaine Herald. Early next month, Pilsner is scheduled to make his first court appearance in the case.



Years ago, soon-to-be-marrieds lose gifts in fire

Thirty years ago, the rural Jordan home of Bob Pexa went up in flames. Laverne Schaak, soon to be married to Tim Verhoeven, lived in one of the house's apartments, which was gutted by flames and the couple lost most of their shower gifts.

Car accident results in personal injuries

Early this morning, the Minnesota State Patrol, the Jordan police and fire departments, and Allina Ambulance responded to a car crash on Highway 169, near its intersection with166th St. in Sand Creek Township, north of Jordan.

The crash occurred prior to 6 a.m., and personal injuries were involved.

At 7 a.m., traffic was still backed up for 1 mile south of the accident.

SAVAGE -- Julia Blackhawk’s journey home has understandably been a tough one for her mother, Joy.

Julia was one of 13 people who lost their lives in the I-35W bridge collapse last year and her family has not only endured the untimely loss of a loved one, but has had to do so in the limelight. But in spite of all the media attention, Joy Blackhawk has drawn strength in knowing that her daughter was a good mother and was fulfilling her dream by attending the Aveda Institute.

SAVAGE--What is normal after you’ve lived through something as monumental as the collapse of the I-35W bridge?

For Brad, Paula, Brianna and Brandi Coulter, it changes every day. Right now, it’s getting Brianna and Brandi ready to start their first semester at Winona State. Or, it might be taking a short trip to Target to pick up something. And as the first anniversary of the bridge collapse comes around, “normal” also includes talking to the media or sharing their story with strangers who recognize them.
