Lee and Marilyn Radermacher, owners of Radermacher Holdings Inc., of Jordan, including Cub Foods in Shakopee, have been honored by the Minnesota Grocers Association with their induction into the MGA Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame Award is given to individuals who have been
outstanding in their field and have contributed to the well-being of
others over a long career in the Minnesota food retail industry.
The award was presented by their son, Paul Radermacher, at the MGA annual convention in Brainerd, Minn., which was attended by over 450 of their peers.
The Radermachers, said the MGA, exemplify the meaning of an independent grocer. Lee started working at Red Owl grocery store while attending Jordan High School. When
Lee learned the store was for sale he suggested to his father, Roman,
that he purchase the store and the Radermacher’s family grocery
business began.
Marilyn was born in Lincoln, Neb.,
and became a registered nurse. Lee and Marilyn met at a hospital where
she had been working. They were married on a cold January day and
celebrated their 43rd anniversary this year.
Lee and Marilyn managed the family business and in 1973, when
Roman retired, they purchased the store. By 1981 they had opened the
fourth Radermacher’s Red Owl and in 1997 they partnered with Cub Foods
and broke ground on the Shakopee location. Today, Radermacher’s food
holdings has locations in Jordan, Le Center, Le Sueur and Shakopee.
The Radermachers have always been active members of their
community. They assisted in establishing the Jordan Chamber of Commerce
and give their time to support a variety of organizations. They
developed the Radermacher Family Scholarship Program, which gives
scholarships to graduating seniors.
The Radermachers have been involved in the MGA for more than 50 years.
Lee and Marilyn have four children who are all in the family business.
