Your local newspaper editor interviewed several of them, upon their returns from a day of street riding, and most of them agreed that more Jordan bicyclists should support the Jordan Area Chamber of Commerce-sponsored bike tour, which is organized with the purpose of eventually expanding the trails system in the area. For the best ride on an inner tube, start near Sawmill Woods and take a windy 23-minute trip to the state rest stop along Highway 21. It's a fairly quick trip, even at this time of year, or especially after a good spring rainfall. It is expected to take 18 months to complete. A delegation of people involved in the project gathered at the on the site this morning for a groundbreaking ceremony. Mayor Ron Jabs gave an impromptu speech to the helmet-donning, shovel-wielding group, which included Finance Director Tom Nikunen, City Administrator Ed Shukle, City Engineer Carol Caron, Councilmember Jeanne Marnoff, JEA Architects president Jack Anderson, project manager Gopher State Contractors project manager and vice president Jayson J. Revoir, Councilmember Mike Shaw, Fire Chief Steve Kochlin, Councilmember Sally Schultz, and fire department building committee chairman Mike Briese.
