County fair runs through Sunday

The Scott County Fair opened Wednesday at the fairgrounds at 7151 190th St. W. in St. Lawrence Township near Jordan Wednesday for a five-day run that ends Sunday.

Music, entertainment, food and livestock shows take place all weekend. Merriam’s Midway will also be open selected hours.

Grandstand events start at 7 p.m. through Saturday and include a motorcycle Supercross, truck and tractor pull and demo derby. New this year is an Autocross event Friday evening.

USDA provides emergency assistance to producers of honeybees, livestock and farm-raised fish for 2009 losses

More than $350,000 in disaster assistance is being sent to Minnesota livestock, honeybee and farm-raised fish producers that suffered losses in 2009 because of disease, adverse weather or other conditions.

Thursday, July 29: sweet and sour pork or sweet and sour chicken, white rice

Radermacher's gas station proposal gets OK'd

In a move to increase its continued competitiveness, Radermacher’s Fresh Market is poised to delve into gasoline sales, even offering a fuel discount program.

The Jordan business proposes to build an automated self-serve gasoline fueling station on the northwest side of its parking lot along Highway 282 in the Triangle business district. There would be no attendant at the pumps, Jordan City Administrator Ed Shukle said in an interview.



DNR announces special youth deer season

A press release from the Minnesota Department of Resources (DNR):

Youth ages 10-15 also are eligible to participate in a special deer season that runs from Thursday, Oct. 21, to Sunday, Oct. 24, in 12 permit areas of southeastern and 15 deer permit areas of northwestern Minnesota, according to the DNR.

“This youth-only season provides an opportunity for parents, guardians and mentors to schedule and plan a special deer hunt with youth,” said Mike Kurre, DNR mentoring program coordinator.

Field Day on CSA Farming & Marketing System July 25 in Northfield

A field day and tour on community supported agriculture (CSA) will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 25 at Open Hands Farm near Northfield.

Participants will view firsthand equipment used on the farm and be exposed to the operation's marketing plan involving on-farm pickup by customers. This is a production workshop for people farming or interested in starting a farming operation.
